Ya Zamani - Alsarah & Qais Essar

YA ZAMANI @ALSARAH & QAIS ESSAR A classic song from the taraab traditions of Zanzibar, Ya Zamani, is about a heart long tormented by an old love. Floating in the waters of Lamu kenya, Alsarah stumbled across this gem (first release in 1975) while reminiscing on her broken heart. A heart broken by the world and it's blatant disregard for life. A heart broken by careless hands. The song took new life in Qais Essar's sensitive hands and unique production work. This piece is a classic definition of #eastafricanretropop speaking to the thousands of years of trade between eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean.
