Privacy statement

Last updated: 2 Nov 2026

This statement explains what Afghan Music Archive keeps about you, why, and for how long. In short: as little as possible.

Who is responsible

Afghan Music Archive is a non-commercial hobby project. Responsible for your data: The Afghan Music Archive. Contact: [email protected].

When you only visit

You can use the site without an account. We use no analytics and no advertising cookies. Your choice of language and theme is stored in your own browser. Our servers and Cloudflare see your IP address with every request; server logs are deleted after 7 days.

Videos play through YouTube's player on youtube-nocookie.com. When you press play, YouTube (Google) receives data such as your IP address and may set cookies. See the Google Privacy Policy.

When you create an account

We keep your email address (only for signing in and account emails; never shown), your username and optional display name, your language, and your votes, comments, playlists, reports and video suggestions. Pseudonyms are welcome.

If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your email address. We do not copy your Google name or photo.

YouTube data

This site uses YouTube API Services. Video titles, thumbnails, view counts and channel pictures come from the YouTube Data API and are refreshed or removed within 30 days. We never access your YouTube account. See the Google Privacy Policy.

Who processes data for us

Supabase (database and sign-in, servers in Paris), Google Cloud Run (hosting, in the Netherlands), Cloudflare (network protection, the CAPTCHA, and forwarding mail to our mailbox), Resend (sending account emails) and YouTube/Google (the video player, and Google sign-in if you use it).

How long we keep it

Account data: until you delete your account. Server logs: 7 days. Backups: 30 days, so after you delete your account your data can remain in a backup for up to 30 days.

Your rights

On your account page you can download all your data and delete your account. Deleting it removes your profile, playlists, reports and ban history. Your votes and comments stay, but anonymously: they are no longer linked to you, and comments show as by a “Deleted account”.

For other questions about your data, or a complaint, write to [email protected]. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
